The Police Federation for Scotland (otherwise known as the ”Scottish Police Federation” ) was established by Act of Parliament in 1919 to be the representative body of Cadets, Constables, Sergeants, Inspectors and Chief Inspectors in the Scottish Police Service.

It operates locally through Joint Branch Boards established in each of the eight Scottish Police Forces.

Grampian Joint Branch Board operates on behalf of the members in Grampian Police.

The Joint Branch Board comprises the Constables’ Board, the Sergeants’ Board and the Inspectors’ Board which also represents the interests of Chief Inspectors. Representatives on the separate boards are subject to election every three years and meet quarterly, both as separate boards and together as the Joint Branch Board. Matters of local and national relevance are discussed to agenda and dealt with or referred for action or furtherance either locally, or nationally by referral to the Joint Central Committee (JCC) of the Scottish Police Federation.

The Joint Central Committee (JCC) comprises three national rank committees: The Constables’ Central Committee, The Sergeants’ Central Committee and The Inspectors’ Central Committee. Again members are elected nationally to these Committees every three years.

As well as dealing with work related issues, the Joint Branch Board also tries to secure the best group insurances (life, accident and travel) for its members and deals with a host of other issues affecting the welfare, efficiency and health and safety of its members.
